Šumski was formed in Zagreb in 1991 and from the very beginning stood out as one of the most unusual acts on the scene. Playing and drawing inspiration far from the popular genre boxes of the time, Šumski has created their musical world—full of experimentation and unexpected arrangement choices—where krautrock, world music, psychedelia, new wave, cartoon soundtracks, noise, and avant-garde pop all coexist on equal footing. Their boundaryless sound was initially inspired by bands like Can, Amon Düül, Faust, Blurt, Captain Beefheart, as well as the films of Jacques Tati and the writings of Blaise Cendrars.
