"Where 2+2=5" is an evolving sound installation by Hugo Baranger intertwining chess with moss. Utilizing photosynthesis, biofuel cells capture electricity from the plant to power analogue synthesizers. Moss voltage modulates a sound composition based on games by Mikhail Tal, the "Wizard of Riga." The title reflects his quote about taking opponents into a forest where 2+2=5. The ecological resilience of moss parallels Tal's daring sacrifices. This installation unravels the magical dimensions of human competitive play and nature's stoic resilience. It creates a living experiment that, like chess or life, invites play, creation and permanent movement forward.
